2005 Freestyle State
Championships Analysis
Utah does not offer team trophies at its
freestyle or Freestyle state championships. In my
opinion, this is not right. In other states, their
freestyle and Greco-Roman programs take as much pride in
these state championships as any high-school championship,
making up their team t-shirts with the years that they
took state and in which style. Some schools in other
states even list the freestyle and Freestyle state
championships right alongside their high-school
championships in the school. It's all a question or
importance and support for wrestling as a whole, not just
this or that particular style or niche. That said, I took
it upon myself to do a little analysis of the results from
the 2005 Freestyle State Championships to see just how
one program or another fared. To simplify things, I
allotted six points for a member of one team taking 1st
place, five for 2nd, and so on, to 6th place, which earned
1 point. This does not take into account the size of a
weight class, but it does give an idea of how the clubs
fared on the empirical data available.
