2004 Freestyle State Championships Analysis
Utah does not offer team trophies at its freestyle or
Greco-Roman state championships. In my opinion, this
is not right. In other states, their freestyle and
Greco-Roman programs take as much pride in these state
championships as any high-school championship, making up
their team t-shirts with the years that they took state
and in which style. Some schools in other states
even list the freestyle and Greco-Roman state
championships right alongside their high-school
championships in the school. It's all a question or
importance and support for wrestling as a whole, not just
this or that particular style or niche. That said, I
took it upon myself to do a little analysis of the results
from the 2004 Freestyle State Championships to see just
how one program or another fared. To simplify
things, I allotted six points for a member of one team
taking 1st place, five for 2nd, and so on, to 6th place,
which earned 1 point. This does not take into
account the size of a weight class, but it does give an
idea of how the clubs fared on the empirical data
available.
