Chamberlain comes from a family with a long history in
wrestling, and he is the best.
He is a slick technician who never loses his head,
regardless of the situation. It's this maturity, far
beyond his years, that makes all the difference. He is patient and waits
for his openings and opportunities. And it's
certainly paid
off. He has had two undefeated
seasons prior to high school, has an interscholastic
record that of 191-2 with 98 Pins in four years of high school
wrestling, and is a two-time USA Wrestling National
Champion (in Fargo at Junior Nationals in 2007 in
freestyle, and in Wisconsin in Greco-Roman as a schoolboy). His freshman year proved out as
expected, taking only one loss, but winning his first
state title. His sophomore year turned out just as
amazing. At
state that year, he won his second state title in a tournament that
had people saying that he was the best in the state, pound
for pound, teching every opponent while only allowing
three points to be scored against him. As a junior,
his state tournament was even more dominant, with him
pinning every opponent, finishing with Greg Nielson of Mt.
Crest, who had only lost four matches that season.
As a senior, he walked through the state tournament yet
again, pinning every opponent until the finals, where he
beat Pineview's Matt McDonald (himself a very tough
adversary, only having lost two matches this season prior
to meeting Chamberlain) by technical fall, with a score of
23-8. adding his name to that very
exclusive list of four-time state champions. To top
it off, he was named the 2008 Dave Schultz High School
Excellence National Award by the National Wrestling Hall
of Fame & Museum (only the second Utahn to have ever
received this honor), and was named
TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for May 27June 2,
2008. He set the Utah record for the most
high-school career wins, with 191 (breaking the previous
record of 144 set by Andrew
Hochstrasser).
