Two Wolverines Ranked in First NCAA Coaches' Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA released this morning the first Coaches' panel rankings ahead of the 2024 NCAA Championships in March.
Utah Valley's Evan Bockman came in the highest of the Wolverines at No. 18. He was one of seven ranked wrestlers from the Big 12 Conference at 197. This year, the two-time NCAA qualifier is 12-4 while holding a 3-1 record against Big 12 foes. This year, he holds a 5-2 record against ranked foes and has tallied seven wins over opponents who were in the initial panel rankings.
The other Wolverine represented in the initial rankings is 184-pounder Jacob Armstrong, who holds a 10-5 record this year. He came in at No. 28 in the rankings at 184, where the Big 12 holds five in the top 10.
The NCAA Coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in the country, with each conference having two voting members. To be eligible, a wrestler has to be the designated starter in their weight class and have eight D1 matches, with at least one match in the last 30 days.
The rankings are one of the criteria the NCAA selection committee uses in determining at-large berths and seeding for the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships. The full description of the selection process is available on ncaa.org. The 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held on Mar. 21-23 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
