LaMont and Gregerson Head to World Championships

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University redshirt junior Taylor LaMont and current Brunson UVRTC competitor and former Wolverine Dylan Gregerson will head to Belgrade, Serbia to compete at the U23 World Championships in Greco-Roman competition next week.

The 2021 23-and-Under World Championships will run Nov. 1-7 at Belgrade's Belexpocentar and the Greco-Roman portion of the event will be held Monday to Wednesday, Nov. 1-3. LaMont, who is competing at 55 kg (121 lbs.) will open his 2021 U23 World Championship run on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Belgrade/2:30 a.m. MT, while Gregerson, who will wrestle at 60 kg (132 lbs.), will begin competing on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Belgrade/2:30 a.m. MT. The three-time NCAA qualifier, 2021 Big 12 finalist and 2021 All-American LaMont is no stranger to competition on the world stage, as next week's U23 World Championships will mark his eighth consecutive age-group world team that he has competed on, as he's previously represented Team USA on three Cadet World Teams (2013, 2014, 2015), three Junior World Teams (2016, 2017, 2018), and now back-to-back U23 World Teams (2019, 2021, there was no 2020 World Championships due to COVID).

LaMont won a Junior World bronze medal in 2016 and won U23 Nationals in May to again earn a spot to compete at the 2021 U23 World Championships. He is also a five-time Fargo champion and previously won a pair of bronze medals at the 2015 Junior Pan-Am Games and the 2014 Cadet Pan-Am Games. He will enter next week's competition as a strong candidate to earn a medal in Belgrade.

Gregerson, who wrestled for Utah Valley for two years from 2018 to 2020, earned a trip to Belgrade after winning U23 Nationals for the second straight year this past May. He previously won U23 Nationals in 2020 at 63 kg before again claiming gold at the U23 Nationals at 60 kg in May. Gregerson previously won a pair of titles at the 2018 Junior Pan-American Championships, as he won both freestyle and Greco. He also took third at the 2019 World Team Trials and second at the 2018 Junior World Team Trials. Gregerson earned All-American honors at Junior Nationals in Fargo in Greco competition in 2016.
