Outstanding Freshman Wrestlers for 2004–2005

Jason Chamberlain
Springville High School, 103 lbs.
GPA: 3.95
School Classification: 4A
|
|
Chamberlain comes from a family with a long history in
wrestling, and he is every bit as good as any of them.
He is a slick technician who never loses his head,
regardless of the situation. He is patient and waits
for his openings and opportunities. And it's paid
off in his career so far. He has had two undefeated
seasons prior to high school, and has an interscholastic
record that would make anyone envious, and is a National
Champion to boot.
2005 State
Champion (112 lbs.), Interscholastic
Record: 32-2
with 19 or 20 Pins.
Freestyle Record: 45-2.
Greco-Roman Record: 40-1.

Ky Lucero
Jordan High School, 125 lbs.
School Classification: 5A |
|
I've watched and coached Ky since he first started
wrestling in 2002. He came out, no experience, but
had a
natural feel for the sport. No doubt, it's genetic,
being the son of a pretty amazing Utah wrestler. Ky
was as diligent a student as I've ever seen, drinking in
technique, absorbing it like a sponge, and applying it
immediately. This yeoman-like attitude for learning
led to state championships in Greco-Roman and freestyle as
a first-year wrestler. He followed that with a
silver medal at Junior High State in 2003, then double
championships in freestyle and Greco for the second year.
In 2004, he was crowned champion at Junior High State, and
racked up his third straight season as a double medalist
the USA Wrestling Utah State Championships. Ky is as
exciting a freshman wrestler as I can remember.
Following is a
summary of Ky's wrestling career so far:
-
2004 Junior High School
State Champion
-
Three-Time USA
Wrestling Utah Freestyle State Champion (2002–2004)
-
Three-Time USA
Wrestling Utah Greco-Roman State Champion (2002–2004)
-
2003 Junior
High School State Silver Medalist

Matt Brown
Cyprus High School, 103 lbs.
School Classification: 4A |
|
Brown is a
skilled technician with power. He keeps his head
even in the most wild situations. In his
championship match at Western Regionals last summer, he
had to maintain his composure as the match ended in
overtime, then was restarted three times, as the
sudden-death score was overruled. That's tough on
anyone, let alone a 14-year-old. He finished with
championship titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at
Western Regionals, then went on to capture a USA Wrestling
Kids National Title in freestyle back in Wisconsin, as
well as an All-American finish in Greco-Roman. This
one's set for a great freshman year.
Following is a
summary of Matt's wrestling career so far:
-
2004 USA
Wrestling Kids National Champion in freestyle
-
2004 5th Place,
USA Wrestling Kids National Championships in Greco-Roman
-
2004 USA
Wrestling Western Regional Champion in both freestyle and
Greco-Roman
-
2004

State Championships
-
