Stockton is an exceptional wrestler who I've watched develop as an athlete pretty much much since he started wrestling when he was 5. He wrestled my son more times than I can count, and has improved in ways that many cannot since reaching high school. He is a sharp technician who, if he falls short in a match, most often fixes the problem and comes back to tip the scales the other direction. He puts in his time on the mat in Utah and nationwide. He competes in and wins some of the biggest and toughest tournaments in the country. He took state as a freshman without the cushion of being in the lower weights. As a freshman, he only lost six matches at 126 pounds, dominating his opponents in the state tournament, not one closer than a major decision, including in the finals, when he beat Noah Patterson of Salem Hills. His state title as a sophomore came with all pins, until the finals, when he beat Viewmont's Jeremy Evans 10-6 at 132 pounds. His junior year, he did not have a match at state that reached the one-minute mark until the finals. There, Farmington's Austin Gillette lasted until the second round before being teched out 18-3. Stockton has been at the top of the talent pool in Utah particularly since entering his ttens (see below). He will continue that level of performance as a senior.
Stockton will undoubtedly be the next to be on that short list of four-time state champions.
