PLEASANT VIEW — For the first time in the
15-year history of the Weber Duels, the host Weber
Warriors have taken home the championship trophy.
The Warriors had three wrestlers take home
individual championships. Shay Warren, at 112 pounds,
finished the two-day event with a perfect 7-0 mark, as did
teammates Jorge Lopez (189) and Josh Skoglie (215).
It also marked just the second time that
Star Valley, Wyo., has not won the team championship. Star
Valley finished third behind Alta. Bear River took fourth,
followed by Sky View, Morgan, Lone Peak and Pleasant
Grove.
Other local individual champions include
Morgan's Stefan Palmer at 103 pounds, Jake Madsen of Bear
River at 119, Morgan's Mike Clunas (152) and Bear River's
Devin Gibbs at 160.
In one of the closest matches of the
tournament, Lopez went into overtime to defeat Star
Valley's Chance Warren, 8-6.
Other top finishers were Trevon Van
Valkenberg of Bear River, who finished second at 112
pounds and Morgan's Zach Taylor, also a second-place
finisher at 119 pounds.
Landon Rich of Morgan captured second at
135 followed by Weber's Matt O'Dell in the same weight
classification.

pounds and teammate Travis Harris also took second at 275.
"Our kids wrestled very well," Weber

a chance to win."
