Wrestlers Get Season Off to a Good
Start
The Cowboy wrestling team started the
season off at the Beaver Tournament. Sophomore AJ Cserepes
brought home a first place medal while Senior Andy Heaton
and junior AJ Hooper placed third. Wrestling exhibition
and winning their matches were sophomore Tyler Doss and
senior Landon Casebolt.
At the Panguitch JV Tournament, several
young wrestlers gained valuable experience and the
following came home with medals: AJ Cserepes - fourth;
sophomore Danny Brown and freshman TJ Reidhead - third;
and Tyler Doss - first. Freshman Davis Wood won his second
match with a pin, but did not place.
Kanab hosted a three-way duel last week
with Parowan and Milford. Kanab retained the traveling
“Boot” trophy with a team win over Milford. They lost to
Parowan. Tyler Doss, freshman Rick Visser, Landon Casebolt
and Andy Heaton all had impressive matches.
A little mat time started to pay off as
the team traveled to the Parowan Tournament this past
weekend. In the JV division, freshman Roberto Fernandez
placed fourth. TJ Reidhead won his first two matches, then
had to stop because of an injury to his shoulder. Freshman
Brock Miner took the second place medal and Tyler Doss
remained undefeated in JV with a first place medal.
In the varsity division, senior Jacob Long
took the third place medal, AJ Hooper finished fourth,
Andy Heaton took third and junior Tyler Juber finished
second. Winning matches, but not medaling, were junior
Taylor Linton and Landon Casebolt.
Other wrestlers include freshman Mike
Garcia, Tyler Robinson, Alden Bunting and Matt Dove.
On Saturday, December 18, Kanab will
travel to the Piute Tournament. Coaches George Kelly and
Jason Brown are pleased with the team’s progress.
