Wrestlers Get Season Off to a Good Start

The Cowboy wrestling team started the season off at the Beaver Tournament. Sophomore AJ Cserepes brought home a first place medal while Senior Andy Heaton and junior AJ Hooper placed third. Wrestling exhibition and winning their matches were sophomore Tyler Doss and senior Landon Casebolt.

At the Panguitch JV Tournament, several young wrestlers gained valuable experience and the following came home with medals: AJ Cserepes - fourth; sophomore Danny Brown and freshman TJ Reidhead - third; and Tyler Doss - first. Freshman Davis Wood won his second match with a pin, but did not place.

Kanab hosted a three-way duel last week with Parowan and Milford. Kanab retained the traveling “Boot” trophy with a team win over Milford. They lost to Parowan. Tyler Doss, freshman Rick Visser, Landon Casebolt and Andy Heaton all had impressive matches.

A little mat time started to pay off as the team traveled to the Parowan Tournament this past weekend. In the JV division, freshman Roberto Fernandez placed fourth. TJ Reidhead won his first two matches, then had to stop because of an injury to his shoulder. Freshman Brock Miner took the second place medal and Tyler Doss remained undefeated in JV with a first place medal.

In the varsity division, senior Jacob Long took the third place medal, AJ Hooper finished fourth, Andy Heaton took third and junior Tyler Juber finished second. Winning matches, but not medaling, were junior Taylor Linton and Landon Casebolt.

Other wrestlers include freshman Mike Garcia, Tyler Robinson, Alden Bunting and Matt Dove.

On Saturday, December 18, Kanab will travel to the Piute Tournament. Coaches George Kelly and Jason Brown are pleased with the team’s progress.
