Six Wrestlers Earn Honors
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Six Utah Valley
wrestlers were among 26 student-athletes honored by the
Western Wrestling Conference on its All-Academic Team and
Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2007-08 season.
Seniors Sam Allen and Nate Kearsley were
named to the All-Academic team, while Casen Eldredge,
Jeffrey Newby, Flint Ray and Zach Williams were named to
the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
To qualify for the All-Academic team,
student-athletes had to have a minimum 3.20 grade point
average, be a starter or key reserve and be a sophomore or
higher. The Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes
student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 GPA.
The Western Wrestling Conference is
comprised of seven schools including the Air Force
Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern
Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
"We were hoping for a little better than
third place. We were hoping for a trophy but nothing to
hang our heads about," said Payson coach Chris Loveless.
"In a tough tournament, we placed nine kids and put five
in the finals, so we did a good job."
