G-Ville's Vickers Places Fourth, Team
Finishes 12th at State Meet

Grantsville High finished in 12th place at
the 3A state wrestling tournament last week with more than
half of their points coming from Austyn Vickers at 152
pounds. Vickers scored 16 of Grantsville's 30 team points
at the state meet with four other wrestlers contributing
points to the team total.
Wasatch edged Delta for the team title
with Grantsville's region rivals Logan, Bear River and
Morgan all finishing in the top 10.
Vickers won his opening match by a major
decision and was pinned in the second round by eventual
state champion Jake Salazar of Wasatch. Salazar is 47-1 on
the season. Salazar won all his matches by pins and won by
major decision in the championship match.
After losing to Salazar, Vickers came back
to win three consecutive matches and ended up wrestling
for the third and fourth spot. He ended up losing his
final match to finish the tournament with a 4-2 record and
fourth place. Vickers finished 29-15 for the season.
At 145 pounds, Trevor Anderson pinned his
first opponent, but then lost his next two matches.
Skylar Phelps, at 160 pounds, lost his
fist match but then pinned his opponent in the second
round to score points for the Cowboys.
Seth Krieser, at 171 pounds, pinned his
opponent in the first round but lost in the second round
and in the consolation bracket. He was able to score four
points for the Cowboys.
Ty Hamatake, at 189 pounds, won his
opening match by decision and then lost in the second
round. He won his first match in the consolation bracket.
but lost a fourth match to finish 2-2 at state and score
three points for the Cowboys.
Also representing Grantsville at the state
tournament were Austin Rowley, Corey Gunderson and Daryl
James.
