FILLMORE-- Wrestlers from North Sanpete High traveled to Fillmore and Millard High School recently to compete in the annual Millard Ironman Competition where they finished third in the tough field, just behind Millard and Delta.

North Sanpete needed to win just one more match against both Millard and Delta to take the victory.

At 103 pounds, Fairview junior Kolton Cheney had a great weekend as he went 9-1, losing 5-0 to Delta but beating all other opponents, including wrestlers from larger schools like Mountain View, Clearfield, and Pleasant Grove, as well as another 3A powerhouse school, Uintah.

The Mighty Hawks struggled in the lower weights other than Kolton, until getting to the 135 division where Kolton's twin brother, Keaton went 8-2 for the team. Cheney's only two losses came against Payson and Millard.

Cheyne Christensen, in the 140 pound class, also had a great tournament losing just one match. The junior beat everyone in his division until he lost his Payson match.

Reggie Clawson, competing at 152 went 7-3, while Jordan Walker and Jordan Lee each went 6-4 for the weekend.

Chad Bradley and Cody Irons each went 8-2. Irons wrestled well above his normal weight to fill the heavyweight division, and his combination of strength and skill helped him to win his matches.

Senior Dylan Clark, who went undefeated in the state last year and swept his way to the state title, continued his amazing streak over the weekend and went 10-0 at 215 pounds. Clark probably didn't even wrestle for more than five minutes as he blew his opponents away.

North Sanpete who took second in the state tournament last year is well placed to be in position for another run at the title this year.
