Eighteen Utah Wrestlers Headed for Reno Nationals

Group headed to Nevada to compete in the Reno Nationals Dec. 1–2, 2007, at the at the Reno Livestock Events Center. The tournament is part of the World of Wrestling series of folkstyle national tournaments, and will host athletes ranging from age 4 to 15.

The Utah competitors include:

  • Tristan Smith of North Summit (based in Coalville), 6 and Under 37 lbs.

  • Garrick Kilpack of Mountain Top Wrestling Club (based in Sandy), 6 and Under 43 lbs.

  • Braden Henson of Pride Wrestling (based in Murray), 6 and Under 46 lbs.

  • Jed Lee of Pride Wrestling, 6 and Under 52 lbs.

  • Zak Kohler of Wasatch (based in Heber City), 6 and Under 52 lbs.

  • Mason Christiansen of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 6 and Under 55 lbs.

  • Jaxon Cole of North Summit, 8 and Under 49 lbs.

  • Derek Fisher of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 8 and Under 49 lbs.

  • Siondileigh Kilpack of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 8 and Under 55 lbs.

  • Cole Moody of Pride Wrestling, 8 and Under 58 lbs.

  • Matt Lee of Pride Wrestling, 10 and Under 61 lbs.

  • Sean Johnson of Pride Wrestling, 10 and Under 80 lbs.

  • MacKelti Kilpack of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 10 and Under 80 lbs.

  • Jed Mellen of Payson, 12 and Under 96 lbs.

  • William Kilpack of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 12 and Under 100 lbs.

  • Zachary Coffman of Tooele Youth Wrestling, 12 and Under 120 lbs.

  • Ella-Maereen Kilpack of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 15 and Under 115 lbs.

  • Jake Johnson of Mountain Top Wrestling Club, 15 and Under 157 lbs.

This is a strong field of Utah athletes. Some of the notable accomplishments by these athletes include Garrick Kilpack, who has made it to the finals in three national tournaments and won three state titles, including being named Outstanding Wrestler in his age division in Greco-Roman last spring at thee USA Wrestling-Utah State Championships. Braden Henson is a state champion and a state runner-up. Jed Lee was the Intermountain Champion for his age division last year, is a four-time state champion, and a Utah Summer Games champion. Mason Christiansen is a state champion and a state runner-up. Jaxon Cole most recently won the Monster Match Nationals in Denver, is a five-time national finalist and is a three-time state champion. Derek Fisher took bronze at the Gladiator World Championships and finished fifth at the U.S. Folkstyle Nationals. Cole Moody was a bronze medalist at the U.S. Folkstyle Nationals last spring, has finished third at the Reno World Championships and Gladiator World Championships, and is a five-time state champion and was the Outstanding Wrestler for his age division at USA Wrestling-Utah State Championships last spring. Matt Lee was the Intermountain Champion for his age division last year, is a four-time state runner-up, and a two-time Utah Summer Games champion. MacKelti Kilpack is a two-time Girls National Champion and placed eighth at the AAU Grand Nationals last summer, wrestling boys. Jed Mellen placed sixth at the U.S. Folkstyle National and fifth at the Rocky Mountain Nationals last spring, and third at the U.S. Folkstyle Nationals in 2006. William Kilpack is a seven-time national champion and 25-time All-American, was the Intermountain Champion for his age division last year, went undefeated at the USA Wrestling Western Regional Championships in both styles last summer, and is a seven-time state champion. Zachary Coffman took is a U.S. Folkstyle Nationals champion and a three-time state finalist.
