Wasatch Win Another at Tiger-Grizzly
Invitational
Thirty-two
teams from four states traveled recently to the
Tiger-Grizzly Invitational in Idaho Falls, including seven
Utah teams. Wrestling powerhouse Wasatch High School came
out with the 1st place trophy, but Utah rounded out the
top three with Box Elder High School coming in third. In
addition, Utah superstar Andrew Hochstrasser of Tooele
High School came out with the Outstanding Wrestler trophy
for the lower weights.
Wasatch won top honors by a healthy 75 points over
2nd-place Eagle High School (Idaho), with wrestlers in the
finals in eight of the 13 weights, and half of those
closing with wins. Second-place Eagle had four wrestlers
in championship matches, with two coming away with wins.
Third-place Box Elder had one wrestler in the finals,
illustrating what great depth their team really has.
Among Wasatch's champions was Casey Smith (103 lbs.),
Cyler Sanderson (135 lbs.), Colton Salazar (152 lbs.) and
Jordan Smith (160 lbs.). Other Utah wrestlers coming out
on top included Hochstrasser (130 lbs.) and Craig Mock
(189 lbs.) of Weber High School. Hochstrasser had to face
a fellow Utahn in the final round, pinning Tyrell Sweat of
Wasatch, while Wasatch's Smith also had to face off
against someone from home, winning a hard 1-0 decision
against Shay Warren of Weber.
