Army Wrestling Announces Class of
2011: Twenty-One Wrestlers To Join The Black Knights
(excerpt only)
WEST POINT, N.Y. Army head coach Chuck Barbee
announced his 2006-07 recruiting class and will welcome 21
wrestlers to the United States Military Academy Class of
2011. Included in the group of wrestlers are eight
competitors from the United States Military Academy
Preparatory School and two younger brothers of Army
wrestlers.
Nine wrestlers will graduate in June from last years
squad that went 10-6 and sent three wrestlers to the NCAA
Championships.
We covered our weight classes pretty well, said
Barbee who recently completed his seventh season at Army.
We have some talented kids that are coming in and have
the potential to rack up some great accolades. This might
be the toughest recruiting class coming out of prep school
since I have been here. They did an excellent job of
competing and some of the guys have 30 or 40 matches so
they have helped themselves tremendously.
A breakdown of the Class of 2011.
Incoming Freshmen:
Casey Smith is a four-time state place-winner in Utah.
He finished second as a freshman, sophomore and junior and
won a state title as a senior. He was 152-22 in his career
and was a four-time medalist in the Reno Tournament of
Champions, finishing fifth twice, fourth once and third
once. He was also a Cadet All-American and won
championships in freestyle and Greco-Roman.
It will be a challenge for the newcomers but I think
they will certainly challenge some of the upperclassmen
for starting time, Barbee said. I am very excited to see
who can step up to the next level and compete.
