Three Utahns Win National Wrestling
Titles
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A record three
Utahns won national championships at the NHSCA National
High School Wrestling Championships over the weekend at
the Pavilion Convention Center in Virginia.
Viewmont High junior Nate Larsen, who was
third in the Utah state tournament last February, won a
national championship at 103 pounds in the tournament for
juniors. Larsen defeated California state champion
Gilberto Camacho of Fresno's Washington High 3-2 with an
escape and a takedown in the final 30 seconds.
Springville High junior Jason Chamberlain,
a three-time state champion, racked up four takedowns in a
9-2 win over Kansas state champion Aldon Isenberg of
Gardner-Edgerton High. The victory gave Chamberlain the
national title in the tournament for juniors.
Team Utah tied California for fifth place
with 133.5 points in the team race, which was won by
Pennsylvania. New York, Ohio and New Jersey finished
second, third and fourth.
In the Sophomore National Championships,
Mountain Crest High's Ethan Lofthouse won the 152-pound
title, edging three-time Alabama state champion Hayden
Countryman of Prattville High 7-2. Lofthouse scored a
five-point reversal with 30 seconds remaining to break a
2-2 tie.
