Wrestling USA Has Wasps In Sixth After Reno Tournament
Victory
by Courtney Gressman
Before Reno, the
Wasps were sitting 12th in the nation. Now that they won
the Reno Tournament, the Wasps have moved up into sixth
among the nations best wrestling teams.
The Wasps will take
that ranking into Minnesota this weekend, as they look to
dominate “The Clash” Tournament, where they finished
fourth in last year.
As of Sunday, the
Wasps were also picked as the Top High School Southwestern
Region team. They are one of the few teams from the west
to be competing at this tournament.
The team that could
give the Wasps their first loss this year could be number
two-ranked Apple Valley (MN), who is picked to win the
tournament.
The tournament will
be held in Rochester and begins Friday. The Wasps have an
afternoon draw and will be wrestling Friday afternoon. The
tournament continues through Saturday.
Wasatch has drawn
Milaca for the first round. Milaca is a 2A school from
Minnesota and will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament.
Wasatch goes in with a No. 1 seed.
The Wasps could meet
Owatonna in the final of the day, which is the team former
coach Wade Discher left Wasatch to help coach. This could
be an interesting match up.
Friday’s matches
begin after 2:00 p.m...
