Buffs Top Cowboys in Wrestling Dual

Tooele grappler Braeden Torgensen pinned
Grantsville's Michelle Meredith in the 105-pound division
to start off the region 11 rival meet on Jan. 17 that
found the Buffs over Grantsville 66-18. The Buffs Jake
Golden took down Darrell James of Grantsville for a win in
the 121 division as Jesse Bissegger pinned GHS' Tyler
Gregory at 132.
At 137, Torre Powell pulled out one of the
Cowboys' three victories, pinning Mike Trujillo in under
six minutes. Daniel Goode continued the onslaught,
defeating Grantsville's Toby Martinez by fall a 140. Zeb
Hansen recorded the fastest win of the match, pinning
Cowboy Drew hart in 38 seconds in the 147 division, as
Buff standout Monte Schmalhaus slammed Kennedy Storwald of
Grantsville to the mat for a victory at 154.
Tooele's Austin Hansen pinned Skylar
Phelps for a win at 162, and Jake Foster finished off the
Buffs success, defeating Grantsville's Seth Kreiser by
fall at 173.
The Cowboys then finished off the match
with two victories, as Cowboy Jake Templeton pinned Marco
Rebaza at 217 and Jace Hart slammed Bryce Folker of Tooele
to the mat to finish off the meet.
Both JV teams also met, as the Buffs took
the strong victory at 60-6 as Ben Nelson, Travis
Gustafson, Ken Elsbury, Cassidy Adams, Kolton Rose, Josh
Day, Brady Wice, Glen Kummer, Zach Huntsman, Dallin
Chevalier, and Colt Kroeger pulled in victories for the
night. Names of the Grantsville JV competitors were not
submitted.
The Buffs and Cowboys will meet again at
the region 11 championships on Feb. 1-2 at Logan High
School.
Foster Places at Invite
Buff senior Jake Foster grappled to a 4-2
record and a fourth place medal in the 171-pound division
at the Tiger-Grizz tournament on Jan. 19-20 at Skyline
High School. The Buffs finished 24th out of 34 schools.
Isaac Brown finished with a 2-2 record and
a fall in the 189 division as Daniel Goode went 2-3 at 140
with a pin in just 20 seconds. The Buff duo of Jake Golden
(119) and Monte Schmalhaus (154) both finished with 1-2
records on the day.
Both Zeb Hansen (147) and Austin Hansen
(162) finished with a 1-2 record and a pin to their name.
Braeden Torgensen (103), Jake Prather
(112), Chris Heaps (125), Jesse Bissegger (130), Mike
Trujillo (135), and Marco Rebaza (215) all went winless
for the invite.
The Buffs will be hosting Ben Lomond High
school tonight at the THS gym as they prepare for region
and state championships next month.
