VomBaur Joins Wyoming Coaching Staff
LARAMIE, Wyo. — University of Wyoming head
wrestling coach Steven Suder announced today the hiring of
Ben VomBaur as an assistant coach with the Cowboy program.
VomBaur replaces K.C. Rock, who took a coaching position
at Utah Valley State earlier this summer.
VomBaur was a two-time All-American
wrestler at 125 pounds for Boise State University. In his
three years with the program, 2001-03, he placed fourth at
the NCAA Tournament in 2002 and sixth in 2003, and was a
Pac-10 conference champion in both 2001 and 2003. Prior to
attending Boise State, VomBaur spent a year at Clackamas
Community College in Oregon City, Ore., where he was an
NJCAA All-American, placing third at nationals.
VomBaur comes to Wyoming from Wasatch High
School in Heber City, Utah, where he coached the wrestling
team to back-to-back Utah state championships. He has
coached seven individual state high school champions the
past two years. VomBaur is also active in the wrestling
community as a club coach, camp director and instructor.
"The addition of Ben is more than a step
in the right direction for this program," stated Suder.
"He will bring a freshness, vigor and experience to our
wrestling room that will really be a boost of motivation
and encouragement to this team.
"Ben had very good collegiate career at a
very good program, which will enhance ours. He is a young,
current guy who will actually be training himself, which
only adds to the positives he brings UW Wrestling."
