Two Utahns Capture Titles in Reno

RENO, Nev. — Brighton's Talan Knox and Provo's Nathan Holt won individual titles Tuesday at the Reno Tournament of Champions wrestling tournament, while Wasatch's Carson Brown settled for second after he gave up a point in the final 15 seconds and lost 4-3 to Kirk Smith of Centennial, Idaho.

Knox won the 160-pound title with a 3-1 win over Jake McCoy of Eagle Point, Ore., by getting a takedown in the third period. Holt took the title at 145 by escaping in the sudden-death session of his match with Tony Webber of Bakersfield, Calif. It was 2-2 when Holt got the escape and gave Utah its second champion among 14 weight divisions at the tournament billed as the toughest in the country.

Brighton's Junior Salt, a senior, placed eighth in the 275 (heavyweight) division.

Wasatch was the highest Utah team finisher, placing sixth with 135 1/2 points, while Brighton took 25th with 90 1/2 . Alamosa, Colo., took first with 159 1/2 points.
Springville was 29th, while Provo was 38th, Lehi 39th, Ogden 40th, Bear River 44th and Carbon 91st.
