West Jordan Youths Named Outstanding Wrestlers

Five West Jordan youth athletes received top honors at the recent Mountain Top Wrestling Club annual awards dinner.

Kyler Machan, Caden Maynes, Cole Moody, Justin Schwendiman and Danny Huntsman were recognized for their efforts in wrestling.

"This has been a great year, with so many new guys wrestling for the first time and so many new faces," said Coach Bill Kilpack (III). "Wrestling is the hardest sport there is. Without strong family support, no wrestler can succeed. We wanted to make sure that the parents feel appreciated. We wanted all the guys to know that their hard word and dedication was noticed and appreciated."

Kyler (Midget 55 lbs.) was one of four named Outstanding Wrestler. He had won two state titles.

Caden (Bantam 40 lbs.) was one of five named Rookie of the Year.

"These were all first-year wrestlers who not only made great improvements over the year, but took it to the next level beyond their peers," Kilpack said.

Cole (Flyweight 50 lbs.), Justin (Midget 60 lbs.) and Danny (Junior 125 lbs.) were among those named Most Improved Wrestlers.

"[They] showed remarkable progress by the end of the season compared to season opening," Kilpack said.

Attendees from the 77-man team received gold medals for their hard work and dedication over the season, photographs of themselves in matches, team photos and trophies. Trophy recipients were selected my the Mountain Top Wrestling Club coaching staff.

Mountain Top Wrestling Club is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to providing a venue for individuals to learn, develop and refine their athletic skills and abilities; and teaching the rules and regulations of freestyle, folkstyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
