UVSC Wrestlers Make Tournament Semis
GREELEY, Colo. — UVSC had four wrestlers
make the semifinals of the Mr. Goodcents UNC Open on
Saturday.
The Wolverines were led by Wayne Watts and Darren Cooper
who both placed third in their respective weight classes.
Darrin Harris (174) and Ryan Argyle (125) took fourth in
their divisions.
"The guys showed a lot of improvement just since last
week. Every match they seem to be getting better," said
UVSC coach Cody Sanderson. "I am very optimistic about the
direction the team is going."
Sanderson said he was especially happy with the team's
performance considering that his top two wrestlers were
not a factor. Erkin Tadzhimetov (133) had to withdraw from
the Open after winning his opening match. Tadzhimetov was
the top seed in his division.
Sanderson also left Mitch Morgan home for health reasons.
Watts' third-place finish came after he lost his opening
match, then reeled off six straight wins, including a
technical fall win over Josh Peterson of Air Force.
Cooper's only loss was to No. 1 seeded Robert Roskiewicz
(Northwest College).
