Northridge Claims Crown in Rocky
Mountain Rumble
The
Rocky Mountain Rumble was held over the weekend at Orem High School. The
tournament included 24 teams from five states, in addition
to as well as nine Utahns ranked nationally by
Wrestling USA Magazine. Laytons growing wrestling
power, Northridge high School, took the top honors with
only one wrestler in the finals, winning through depth in
their squad.
The
3rd place team, West Jordan High School, had the most
wrestlers in the finals, four, but came away with only one
champion. Timpanogos High School had three in the finals,
with all three claiming gold (the most of any team
competing), but came away in 6th. A big treat was Dak
Adamson, a lone competitor from New Mexico who registered
as an independent and took the gold medal at 103 lbs.; the
treat is that hes in eighth grade (in New Mexico, eighth
graders can compete in high-school events), and pinned the
3A no. 1 ranked wrestler in his weight.
The
caliber of wrestling was good, featuring four of the top
10 5A teams ranked by the Utah Wrestling Coaches
Association, five top-ranked 4A squads, and two 3A ranked
squads, two teams top-ranked by Wrestling USA
Magazines Utah Editor, as well as two teams from
Colorado, two from Nevada, one from Idaho and one from
Wyoming.
Team
results were 1st place Northridge High School, 173; 2nd
place North Sanpete High School, 165.5; 3rd place West
Jordan High School 164; 4th place Fruita Monument High
School (Colorado), 138; 5th place Provo High School,

Somewhat of a surprise, unranked Northridge came out on
top. North Sanpete,
ranked 3A no. 6 by UWCA and no. 3 by Wrestling USA
Magazine, came in 2nd; UWCA no. 4 ranked West Jordan
(5A) came in 3rd. Unranked Provo came in 4th. Timpanogos,
ranked 4A no. 2 by the UWCA and no. 1 by the magazine,
came in 6th. UWCA no. 8 ranked Hillcrest (5A) came in
7th; no. 3 ranked Riverton (5A) came in 8th; no. 10 ranked

disappointing) was Pleasant Grove. Ranked 4A no. 6 by the
