Four Wrestlers Picked for All-Star Tournament
Four Uintah High School wrestlers have been selected to
participate in the Utah All-Stars Tournament, Jan. 5 at
Utah Valley Community College.
Uintah was one of the few teams in the state to have four
wrestlers picked to go to the All-Stars Tournament.
Wasatch also had four wrestlers picked.
“This is the most we have had selected to this honor,”
said Gregg Stensgard, Ute wrestling coach. “Last year two
kids were selected from our team. This tournament put the
best wrestlers against the best wrestlers.”
During the tournament, wrestlers chosen from 1A, 2A and 3A
schools wrestle against wrestlers from 4A and 5A schools.
“In the past, wrestlers from the smaller schools have held
their own against 4A and 5A schools,” Stensgard said.
Wrestlers selected from Uintah are Phillip Keddy, Levi
Mele, Jared McCurdy and Czyz Woody.
Phillip Keddy is a 2004 champion and 2005 state runner-up.
He is a Walsh Ironman Champion 2004. He was 4th in the
2004 Brute Nationals. He is a tournament of champs
champion, Warrior champion and top of the Rockies
champion. His junior year record was 41-1. His career
record is 98-11. He is currently ranked fourth in the
nation. Phillip is an Honors Society member and has a 3.87
GPA.
Levi Mele is a State champion, He is a Brute National
champion, took fourth in the junior nationals, Reno
National Champion and 3rd at the Walsh Ironman. He is a
three-time state junior high champion, Junior Class
President and he has a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of the
Honors Society and he is an Eagle Scout.
Jared McCurdy was 3rd at the state championships. He was a
Brute National Champion. He was 1st at the Millard Duals,
2nd at the Warrior Classic and he was in the top 8 at the
Walsh Ironman. He graduated from the J. Robinson 28-day
wrestling camp. His record was 41-8 sophomore and his
career record 80-19. He was a two-time junior high state
champion.
Czyz Woody is a two-time State placer, 4th and 5th. He is
a two-time Millard Champion, and a Warrior runner up. He
is a region champion. He is a two-time junior high state
champion. He had the most falls for the Uintah high school
wrestling team, 29 in 2004. He enjoys hunting, riding
horses and the outdoors.
