Last Week: At the Viewmont Invitational on Dec. 17-18, McCarty was one of three individual Davis champions that led the team to the title.

McCarty on his performance: "I was expecting to finish in the top three, but I didn't expect first place. It was tough competition. That was a great tournament for the team. As a captain it was fun rallying the team."

Goals for Season: "Of course, I aspire to be a state champion. I think it's possible if I keep it up, stay healthy and, as a team captain, get everybody to do their best at state."

After High School: "I plan on serving a two-year LDS mission. I'll most likely get an academic scholarship in writing or debate, but It would be a bonus if I could go to a wrestling school."

Coach Alan Porter on McCarty: "He took third (at state) as a sophomore. He's been very steady. He has good presence. He scrambles real well and doesn't give up points. He's pretty positive with the kids, and the kids love him. He just won't quit."
