Cole is about as tough as anyone I have ever seen, but with skills and mat savvy that are often surprising coming from a kid who looks like such a hulk. I've coached Cole from his corner and against him over the years, and it's a pleasure in either case. He's a gifted athlete with an excellent work ethic who just doesn't quit. No matter what he's running into, he keeps coming and coming and coming. He's eager to learn anything he can to improve and always seems to do it with a smile on his face. Not only that, he's always one of the first to offer to help his teammates or others, whether it's helping learn a new technique or simply to carry something out to the car. He comes from a brood of wrestlers and he's carrying on their winning tradition. Prior to high school, he was once Maple Mountain star Johnny O'Hearon's nemesis, and has won more than his share of state titles between freestyle and Greco-Roman. He charged onto the high-school scene like a raging bull and never let up, finishing with his freshman year with an outstanding record of 38-7 and earning his first high-school state title at 132 lbs. In the finals, he soundly beat Panguitch's Brandon Birth 9-1 after pinning his way to the finals. His sophomore year, he finished the season at 38-5 and pinned his way to the title, only one match taking him beyond the first round. As a junior, he finished out 44-4, with another state tournament full of pins, but improved on the prior year by not having a single match mzkd ig oug ov ghd first. Prior to winning his third state title, he made an outstanding showing at his second appearance in the All-Star Dual, beating Hurricane star McKay Prince wn a resounding 14-4 decision. He's strong and fast and, when he's in the zone, he's fascinating to watch, as he looks for openings. If he doesn't find one, he's also more than happy to make his own, pounding down his opponent's defenses if he has to. He's been at the top of the talent pool in Utah for quite some time, and he will continue that as a senior.
Cole is well on his way to that vert short list of four-timer state champions.
